NotesThis album is an afterimage. Of dark and silver nights, and of Coqui’s chirring against glinting lava streams. And of days, sung by a choir of damp green landscapes, and of crevices never seen.
1. Ke Ala Ke Kua
A lucid collage using tapes, synthesizer, Pacific waves floating in seven, simulated poly-rhythms, day and night mele’s, and site-specific bird sounds.
The composition is written during a daydream. A reverie which interprets the moods of the Kealakekua Bay, and the songs of Ka'awaola.
2. Ho'okena Halawai
A memory for synthesizers and electronics.
Dedicated to the minds at Ho’okena Bay. Being the electric lobes of a pod of spinner dolphins, and two humpback whales.
3. Ko'okika Moku'aina
A study for electronics, birdsong, keyboard, water and tapes.
This experiment came to me while walking on a snow capped Mauna Kea and through Kilaulea’s burned landscape. The footings of the Orchid Isle. A place invaded by a strange and mutilating entity. Yet still of gleaming beauty.
Recorded at CN Studios june, july 2010. Originally released by (K-RAA-K)³ (Ghent, Belgium) and Moamoo (Tokyo, Japan).
